Wife of actor Paul Hogan files for Divorce

The ending of a marriage after over 20 years can be a trying time for anyone. People are surprised when a couple - even a celebrity couple - divorce after decades and announce that their union is over. Regardless of the difference in affluence and notoriety, celebrities experience many of the same issues as the average individual involved in a divorce, such as alimony and child support.

Regardless of their 23 years of marriage, actor Paul Hogan's wife has filed for divorce, reportedly mentioning "irreconcilable differences" as the cause for the split. The two met while co-starring in the 1986 movie "Crocodile Dundee," for which Hogan is famous for. This will be the third divorce for Hogan, 74.

Hogan's wife plans to go back to using her maiden name. She will also appeal for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 15-year-old son, as well as spousal support. Hogan's reported net assets amount to approximately $20 million, accumulated over a 40-year career both in the U.S. and in his home country of Australia. Hogan has five children with his first wife, whom he married in 1958, then divorced, then re-married in 1981.

Divorcing parents in Minnesota have many decisions to make as the marriage comes to an end. Property has to be divided and spousal support may have to be distributed if there is a major difference in the spouses' incomes. Child custody, which usually accompanies child support, is often the most combative part of a divorce for people who have children. If the couple can make the decision without the help of a court's ruling, then a parenting plan can be created together.

Although many couples are able to resolve their divorces with little or no legal advice, there are many situations where legal advice can be critical. Some early tactical decisions can make a big difference in the outcome of your divorce.
